Jason Leffler

I have not said anything about the accident that took the life of Jason Leffler as I do not know the circumstances, and there are deaths that are "racing incidents." It is nice to see however that I am not alone in wanting more transparency in the accidents that are happening and the causes. This is a piece from Sporting News Web site.

Very well said.

Bob,

After this weekend, we lost 6 people in racing related accident in just June - that I know of. Investigations run by law enforcement or by race stewards are, in my opinion, inadequate. We need an engineering/operations investigations into all serious motorsports accidents. The results of these investigations should be made available to any interested party, especially sanctioning parties, race organizers, stewards, marshals, racecar builders, and drivers. If we can learn from these accidents, then maybe, just maybe, we can prevent fatalities in the future. I don't know if the FIA or FIM have dedicated expert accident investigators with engineering backgrounds, but they should. These investigators should know, at a minimum, race track design, racecar construction, accident reconstruction, materials engineering, and race track operations.

Take care and I hope to see you soon,
Perry

Perry, I could not agree more, but in the expert witness cases I do I am lucky if the Police show up, and even then they conduct a cursory examination at best. You are correct, they do not have the expertise. I have been trying to find stats from FIA and FIM and drawn a blank. They must track them and do some follow up, but they are not telling. I am totally frustrated by the situation. We know that lives can be saved if correct designs and procedures are in place, but no one cares.
