Have we finally discovered the true identity of Murphy the Bear! In his recent column Murphy says that Grand Am is greener than ALMS because there are no spectators using all that gas to get to events. Now I have had a rant about this silly green nonsense and the amount of gas used by say the Tour De France spectators, and now Bernie has picked up on it. In a release today Bernie suggested that F1 could be greener by reducing the capacity of the tracks by 10-15%, and mentioned the Tour and soccer as examples where more gas is used by those watching than F1 uses for its races. Perhaps I am Bernie and Murphy?

Bernie is always happier when there are fewer spectators. It is so much easier to get in and out, and you can put billboards anywhere without worrying who's view you have blocked. Just look at Turkey today and Phoenix in years gone by. It is just a coincidence that the "gate" is the only income stream he does not get a piece of, it is only the poor old promoter who is going to subsidize this green initiative.

Talking of subsidies, the Texas legislature is doing just that about the $25 m for the Austin F1 race. Apparently that has not been removed from the budget, yet, but there is plenty of opposition to it at a time of a budget shortfall in the billions. It seems some of the members doubt the $300 m economic benefit from the race each year. The first $25 m is to come from a State events fund, and then the increase in sales tax from the event is supposed to cover future payments. Now they are forecasting a crowd of 120,000. This is mainly a one day crowd, and a lot of them rich Mexicans. Really. Now the 1989 Australian Motorcycle GP had a real attendance over four days of 220,000. If you don't believe me watch the coverage and see the campgrounds. An independent survey showed a gross benefit to the State of $44 m, of which if I recall correctly, $2 m was sales tax. So good luck Texas. As one of the lawmakers asked, if they can raise private money to build the track, why can't they raise another $25 m to buy the race? I think we all know the answer to that.

Glock and Barrichello are two unhappy drivers. Glock says he was taken out of context when he said he may as well go for a coffee as test the car. Seems he was talking about the tires.Rubens says he is not coming back if Williams do not improve. Rubens, you and Michael should buy a couple of old F1 Ferraris and go race for fun somewhere. Or join Kimi in the Camping World Series.

A bit of silliness to start the day, not much else going on. Teams in China for the F1 GP, and Glock is worried that the Virgin may not qualify here. He is even suggesting that the quick teams might use the softs in Q1 just to make sure. He obviously is not feeling the love.

Red Bull reportedly not sure about using KERS here, again, and there is even a suggestion that the radio message to Vettel in Malaysia to turn his off was just mischief as he did not slow down. Not that he was really trying being a second a lap slower than the fastest lap set by team mate Webber. Mark shared some Australian vernacular with reporters in China who dared to suggest he was playing Eddie Irvine to Schumacher. Nice one Mark.

Pirelli are defending the amount of "marbles" on the track from their tires, saying it is normal for tires to wear and put rubber on the track. Yes but it usually goes on the surface to help grip, not roll up in big balls to be thrown around. There is no evidence of tracks "rubbering in" as they used to. There is a piece in Motor Sport this week where Franchiti went to the F1 test to see his cousin Paul di Resta and witnessed a trial start. Loads of wheelspin and tire smoke, but when the car had gone no black marks on the road!

In the same edition Nigel Roebuck has a great article on politics in sport and the Bahrain situation. As I said Bernie cannot say F1 has nothing to do with politics when politicians are voting to pay most of his fees. Rumors circulating that all is not well at Williams, how can it be, share price dropping with their finishing places. Sam Michael is nominated as the scapegoat. There are also mutterings about Mercedes, and Montezemolo cannot be happy over at Ferrari. Jean Todt apparently paid a visit to Ferrari Wednesday, trying to shut them up about the engine I would guess.

This weekend we have the F1 race from China and the World Superbike from the "cathedral," Assen, ALMS and Indycar at Long Beach, although the lack of news on that is deafening. Remember when Long Beach was as big as Indy?

This is getting very boring, news is hard to come by obviously. Helmut Marko says Hamilton is a "topic" of interest to Red Bull, presumably once they think they have got all they are going to get out of Webber. Eyebrows are raised over at NASCAR about Raikkonen's choice of financial partner for his Truck racing debut, one of the Gillette family of Richard Petty Motorsport and Liverpool Soccer Club "fame." The Gillett's still owe some money around the paddock, so is it payback time on track when Kimi hits it in May?

Charlie Whiting says the Red Bull front wing is still legal, even though it drags on the ground at speed. Damn clever these F1 engineers. What is interesting is that elsewhere in life these ideas are patented and no one else gets to use them for a long time. In F1 if you can work out how to copy it, then good luck. Adrian Newey is bemoaning this fact as he now fears McLaren is going to beat them with their own version of the Red Bull exhaust.Timo Glock is finally worried about the Virgin car not being good enough. Where have you been Timo, you've driven that dog for a year?

MotoGP will kick off in Jerez tomorrow as will the first round of the European LMS at Paul Ricard, minus the big boys.

In the middle of an amazing exercise to assemble a team of experts in every field involved in the design, construction, and operation of a motorsport facility. Just wait till you see who is going to be available from one source!

Looked at the web site for the new project. Nearly ready. Going to be in tune with the Spanish heritage of the area and the climate, Sol Real (Royal Sun) Motorsport Resort. Architecture will be Spanish Mission. Project will be very stylish. Need to agree on a logo so we can finalize the website, and just a few tweaks. Really hard to find good photos of country club type tracks, but my good buddy Greg Sarni has helped out. Need to catch up with what has happened since my little detour via Louisiana.

Next week will be busy with setting up the hanger for meeting prospective members, and actually starting sessions with them to explain the project. Just heard that the nearby casino has committed to building a new $20m tower as an addition, so someone else has confidence in the local economy, and it is a great amenity for our members. They will of course prefer our clubhouse, but it is nice to have options.

On the motorsport scene it seems Red Bull management cannot learn when to shut up. After saying they are all friends again, Helmut Marko comes out and says he does not know what Mark wants, he is in a great team and winning races. Vettel should be the one complaining due to all his mechanical problems. If you do not understand what Mark wants Helmut then you should do as Hans Stuck suggested and retire. Jos Verstappen said he would have trod on the wing so neither of them could use it, Go Jos!

Ferrari say they were not told "immediately" to let Kubica back past, Charlie Whiting took a whole 1 minute and 55 seconds. Wow! And of course Charlie only told them his opinion based on what he thought the Stewards would do, and he was correct, so stop whining Ferrari. If you had taken his advice, or better still do it your self straight away, Alonso would have re-passed Kubica easily as the Renault had a problem, and he would have been in a great position.

So Yamamoto did such a great job at Silverstone that he is going to replace Chandook for the next race. I guess HRT   think that if they keep giving him rides his wallet will weigh less each time so he will get quicker? Buemi denies he has re-signed with Torro Rosso and says the transfer market is still open, but where is he going to get a better ride? Does he know something we do not? Does he think a seat is coming available at the senior Red Bull Team? On a similar note Virgin hope to retain Timo Glock, but what seats are open to Timo, as good as he is? Nico Rosberg's new team mate?

Valentino Rossi amazed everyone with his pace yesterday at the German Motorcycle GP, finishing seventh fastest. His fit team mate, Lorenzo, could only manage one place better. Medical science and the willingness of these guys to ride with pain is unbelievable. I saw it with Wayne Rainey, Wayne Gardner, and Mick Doohan, the mark of a true champion, and basically anyone in this sport.
